February 9, 2024 Friday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:35 to 2:35 and there were five seals seen during that time.
Out on the rock flats on the Lanikai side of LPB were two seals:
R606: sub-adult male, lighter ventral, nb on tip of RFF, no tags seen, and he doesn't have any.
Unknown Unknown: no information on this seal since only a small part of it was seen behind the rocks.
On the beach between 3BS and SRI were three seals:
Adult Female: adult size, older coat, brownish female belly and at least one probably two red tags.
Initially cuddled right up to the AF was a Juvenile Female: juvenile size, light female belly and two red tags.
A short distance away at the waterline was an Adult Male: adult size, dark gray male belly and Marilyn doesn't think he had any tags.
First the JF then the AF moved down the beach near to the AM.

After leaving the pier Marilyn checked a couple of locations and found RS36 Pualani. (one of last years pups)  NOAA came out an applied N36 bleach to her right side. She was ID'd by her juvenile size, older coat with some green, female belly and S36/S37 tags.  She is a little cutie! Marilyn noted that it looked like the applied bleach was dried and had some sand on it, so who knows how it will read once she gets into the water.

Team R&B arrived at Kahe this morning and spotted dolphins off shore doing their thing. Then they heard barking from a seal and saw some splashes. When they checked it out it was RG28 arguing with RL08 in the water.
Another seal passed by, it had scratches on its back, but they were not able to make an ID. They reported it as an Unknown Adult.
All three were headed in the direction of KoOlina.

Before leaving the site, they happen to look over to the rocks and saw
that RG28 Lefty had hauled out. He came back after arguing with RL08.
Then from afar they saw a small seal hauled out at electric beach. The seal was sub-adult size, male, and two red tags. They were able to figure out it was RL20 Kalua.

Last stop at the cliffs they spotted an adult seal. Initially the seal was hidden and they couldn't see much, so they waited around for some movement. After a while they left to look around and when they
returned they were able to get an ID. It was RL42 Leia with her signature cc scar on her side.
They spotted a Shama after hearing it chirping.  They also spotted some Hawaiian Stilts.
They did note they spent time looking for RK72 Kekoa Alii, but they never found him.
