Jan 11, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies:

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Lesley and in the Yesterdays news department an update from Melody.  Lesley's Ka'ena Update is part two of the dailies.

In yesterday's news Melody actually sent an update of the last two days (Thursday & Wednesday). I'll do my best to cover Melody's update. On Wednesday she was out taking sunrise photos when one of the residents informed her that Rocky was in one of the coves. Rocky was ID'd by NB on LFF, and Melody called the hotline. Melody was told by folks leaving for work that Rocky hauled out about 4:15 am. Rocky spent the entire day and Melody kept her company and did a tremendous amount of outreach. Rocky finally departed at 4:45 pm.

Now to Thursday, Melody got a call about 1145 that a seal was out at Cove 3. Melody hurried down and upon arrival she knew this was not Rocky, as this critter was MUCH smaller.  Melody was able to view the tags and see H92 and was thrilled to meet her for the first time. She called the hotline. As mentioned in Barb's update yesterday, Melody also spoke to them. They were all able to enjoy RH92 and some whales off shore. RH92 departed at 5:41 pm.

Back to today, Team Billand got to the usual westside site and see three seals up on the rocks. First there was RW02 PvKauai on the lower rocks looking rather dry so he had been there for a while.  He remained there all day, except for moving to his water hole.
The other two seals were Kekoa RK72 and RIP. Kekoa was to the right on rocks on his side snoozing and RIP RR70 was nearby snoozing.  Both seals remained all day and on Team Billands last visit both were in their own water holes.

While Team Billand was checking on the initial three they spotted Kolohe RW22 came in. His applied bleach mark was really visible. Kolohe  hauled up with RW02, there was very little interaction between them. On Team Billands last visit Kolohe was off the rocks and in the water with two seals.

Then Team Billand saw a little seal slithering in quickly. They spotted an applied bleach mark and it's Kawena RH36. She hauled up on lower rocks and stayed with RW02. On their afternoon visit Kawena was all the way right of mid rocks. Kawena is looking good and her coat is very brown when its dried.

On the afternoon check Team Billand noticed there were four seals on the rocks (RW02, RK72, RH36 and RR70) When they noticed three seals off shore fighting, hind flippers in the air and lots of slapping. Kolohe RW22 is in a "gang" possible Kaale but the 3rd seal couldn't be ID's The trio never landed just kept heading west.
