January 19, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies (part 1)

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Marilyn and Lesley.  Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.

Team Billand didn't have a very protective seal finding day. They did come across a couple of critters at one of the popular westside haul outs.
First there was RIP RR70 at mid rocks. Later on he was in the water hole fast asleep.

Team Billand didn't see him right away, in fact they almost missed him sleeping to the left in the shallows by the rocks. They ID'd RW02 PvKauai. He moved to lower rocks on their afternoon check.

Then there were 3, Team Billand studied seal number three, and thankfully he finally moved.  They spotted Kekoa Alii RK72 signature scar on his right face cheek. He too was still there after their Ka'ena West Trek check.

As Team Billand was heading out for their Ka'ena West trek they spotted RK88 Puna resting on the rocks on his back. They stayed on the side, but as they watched folks were getting close and taking pictures. First there were two ladies and then an entire family. They watched and finally they were so upset they went over and Rob advised them. The people left. On Team Billands return after their Ka'ena Trek, Puna was gone.

Lastly they did their Ka'ena West trek they found RL42 Leia at the 40. She was in the same spot as yesterday. Today they got a better glimpse of her, and got a photo of her tag.

Marilyn received a call from a friend saying there was critter at Kokee. Marilyn was able to make her way over late afternoon and sure enough there was a seal. She was able to ID Kaiwi RK96 by her tag, female belly and NB on forehead. She is looking healthy and plump and was resting comfortably.
