01/14/2022 Friday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn, Melody and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:30 to 1:45 and there was only one seal on island during her observation. Not only was it the only seal on island it did not give her much to work with.
On the rockflats at the back of SRI was a lone seal ID'd as:
U/M - looks to be adult size, newer coat, darker gray male belly and two tags. After a while he moved into a tide pool and was mostly hidden.

Melody headed out late afternoon to monitor the seals at an active west side location. When Melody
arrived Team R&B were on site and filled her in on the days activity which was no seals had shown up. Melody stayed and set up camp to wait for an arrival of our seal buddies.
A little later Melody got a text from Team R&B that there was a seal at another west side location. She filled them in that she got skunked and would head over to help out. They updated her that the seal was RH92 Nalani.
When Melody arrived Nalani was still at the waters edge in her zone, with the high surf washing over her. The beach was very busy with lots of surfers taking advantage of the swell. Melody took the opportunity to do some outreach and education especially to those who had never seen a monk seal before. For the most part everyone was very respectful except for those few who needed to get their photos.  RH92 seemed really tired and for the most part was undisturbed. She let out a few snorts and barks and then left after 4 heading east. On her way out she was foraging as she made her way through all the surfers.

Team R&B had to take care of some personal business this morning so they went looking for seals when they got back. They sat and waited for seals to show up but none did. Instead they were treated to beautiful gifts from mother nature, between the early morning sky to some beautiful birds.
Shortly after they found a seal on the rocks fighting the waves. There was RG28 Lefty doing his best to haul out.

At another busy location there was a seal hauling out. There was the lovely RH92 Nalani looking quite plump. They couldn't stay on to watch over her so they reached out to Melody who was nice enough to sit with Nalani.
