June 27, 2024 Thursday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team R&B💕

They started their day at the bay meeting up with a friend. They were chatting when they noticed the dolphins doing what they do best. Then all of a sudden a seal hauled up in front on the rocks. It was RL20 Kalua, finally away from the outfall.  He is full of scratches, but other than that he looks healthy and getting green.

Next they stopped at the outfall and studied the water. They saw a
dark shadow and when it surfaced they ID'd Kaale RH32. They didn't see him stealing fish while they were there but chances are he did at some point.

Lastly they stopped at the cliffs thinking that Lei Ola RH48 might be on the western side. They were right and found her with R3CX Nalu in a pond. They were snoozing side by side, so peaceful.

June 26, 2024 Wednesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:44 to 2:53 pm and there were five seals seen during that time.
Marilyn did see Aukai RL12 and her adopted pup PO3 in the water between 1BS and 2BS, but they did not haul out while she was viewing. She saw PO3 doing several dives with his flippers in the air. Also she saw RL12 vocalizing when she lost sight of him.  (Marilyn wasn't able to get any photos of the two).
RH76 Kala and PO8 were sometimes near RL12 and PO3. Kala
nursed PO8 on the waterline and then they went back for a swim. Later they hauled out and moved up shore for a snooze.
At 2:07 pm Marilyn became aware of a seal hauled out on the rock flats Lanikai side of SRI. At 2:36 pm she saw that the seal had left. Then at 2:48 pm, a seal labeled RK37 hauled out at LPB. RK37 Huia was identified by her adult size, sand-covered female belly, two red tags and a NB on her lower left side.

Team R&B were out at the bay not finding any seals, so they hung out and watched the dolphins. The seals seem to be hiding out today.
Then out of no where they spotted something towards the area. Hooray it was a seal, it looked around the area and then cautiously came into the rocks.
Two people came by and Team R&B warned them of the seal coming in, well a lot of good that did. They walked down to the area with their cell phones in hand. Team R&B told them to give the seal room to come in and stay at least 50 feet away.  They weren't happy.
It was R3CX Nalu, they saw his signature bleach spot on the left side of his face and his tags.  R3CX saw the people so he stayed put, but kept an eye on them. The folks finally left, only to have the "chanters" arrive.  As soon as they belted out IMUA, Naly left but stayed close by foraging in the area.

From there they headed out to the south west quadrant, but no luck, just lots of people everywhere.
Lastly they stopped at Kahe Point where they were thrilled to see three seals sound a sleep.  They headed over very quietly to not draw any attention to the seals. There were several folks in the area so they didn't want them to see the seals on the rocks. The trio were lined up: RL20 Kalua, mid section was RM31 Kai and the third seal was Miss Lei Ola RH48.

June 25, 2024 Tuesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:43 to 1:53 and there were six seals seen during that time.
Out near SRI were two seals:
Unknown Unknown: this seal was in a tide pool in the rock flat and Marilyn never got much of a view. She suspects this is a smaller seal based on the size of the LFF compared to the front flipper of the nearby Adult Female.
Adult Female: adult size, creamy gold female belly and at least one red tag. This may be RK37 Huia who was on Rabbit Island yesterday.
The moms and pups were swimming when Marilyn arrived. Marilyn thinks the moms got close to each and seems Kala RH76 wasn't happy about it. A short time later Kala and PO8 did a partial haul out but the pup really couldn't nurse because mom was partly in the water and PO8 kept getting washed. They finally moved further up the rocks
Aukai RL12 and her adopted pup PO3 were in the water. Later they hauled out briefly on the waterline near 1BS and PO3 nursed. Then they were gone.

Team R&B started off at the outfall and spent quite a bit of time trying to ID two seals. The two critters were in the outfall busy playing and fighting. Eventually they moved to electric beach, off shore still fighting.  This gave Team R&B an opportunity to ID RL20 Kalua and RM31 Kai.
Team R&B lost track of them once they moved on.

They went looking for the boys, headed over to tracks and waited. They heard someone with a very loud whistle, some woman calling the seals (okay this is a first).
Then Team R&B went back to the outfall and talked with the fishers. The fishers told them the woman often whistles for the seals. While talking with the fishers they noticed a seal on shore from afar. They made the long walk over to find RM31 Kai resting.  Then the dogs from the camp came out and Team R&B left for their safety.

As they were going back they noticed a seal had hauled up on shore. They were happy and surprised to see it was RL20 Kalua. They were amazed that after three hours of tracking the boys they were able to find them.

Lastly it took some searching at the cliffs but they found one last seal. It was RM31's little brother RP30 Puka.

June 24, 2024 Monday's Dailies (part 1)

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team R&B💕  Marilyn did view Rabbit Island today but is running late sorting through all the photos.  Please see part 2.

Team R&B first find was at Nimitz. There was RH48 Lei Ola pretty much in the same spot as yesterday. She was resting peacefully, no one bothering her during the time they were there. The girl is looking pretty green, it will be nice to see her when she gets her new coat.

At Kahe they found RM31 Kai on the rocks. It looked like he had just hauled in, wet, green and overall pretty healthy.  They spotted RH32 Kaale swimming by. He turned in and hauled out with RM31 for a brief visit and then left.

Team R&B spotted KG54 from afar. She was alone, resting peacefully and looking shiny in the hot sun.
They also got to watch the dolphins in all their glory.

Last stop they saw a seal on the rocks, when they walked out to get an ID they couldn't find it. So they though it had taken off. They kept looking as they walked back and then there he was hidden in a small pond, all tucked in like a baby. It was RP30 Puka ( RM31's little brother)
