Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island for about an hour today trying to get her observations in between rain squalls. There were four seals on island today.

On the rock flats Lanikai side of LPB were two seals:

Seal 1 - probably adult size, gray male belly and not sure about tags.

Seal 2 - probably a subadult to adult size, light ventral size and no information on tags.

In the same tide pool as the past few days near the 3BS were Mom and PO3. Marilyn didn't see much of either of them today since they were mostly hidden in the tide pool. The pup did crawl up on the rock and draped itself over Mom.

Team R&B started at the outfall where they spotted a seal foraging. There was RL20 Kalua alone getting himself some breakfast. He was mostly in the middle area, bu they were lucky to get a tag shot.

Next they decided to check out secrets and to their surprise there were no seals. They overheard two tourist saying they were glad they saw the sea lion.  Team R&B asked them where, and they pointed to a seal high up on the Honolulu side of the rocks sleeping.  They would have missed him if they didn't hear the tourist talking.  So they got the signs and educated the folks that came by. They called the hotline but no one came out today.

The seal was RN14 Kalani, Team R&B did the best they could with all the people passing through to go see the turtles. They tried to keep them away from the area of RN14. 

Then they spotted a seal coming in fast, it was LEfty RG28. He looked around at the area, sees a man sitting on the rocks. Lefty went over to the Waianae rock side and hauled up. Tourist stood right there and took pictures despite being asked to backup and give the seal room. They called the hotline, did their best and then left.

Team R&B did an inspection at paradise cove and saw a seal on the reef. It was RH32 Kaale, but no signs or volunteer today.  They did see an officer at secrets, which is good, maybe people will listen.

At another west side location they found RH76 Kala.  She was alone resting at seal inlet.  There were lots of folks from the camp walking around it was a little uneasy so they didn't stay.

March 27 2023 Monday's Dailies

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 1:27 to 3:17 and there were three seals on island.

Mom and PO3 spent most of their time today in a tide pool behind the waterfront rocks by the 3BS area. Marilyn only saw a little bit of the kid. She saw Mom's female belly, right rear side scar and at least one red tag.

Among the waterfront rocks between 3BS and SRI was a Subadult Female: smaller subadult size, light greenish gray belly, and unsure about tags.

It appears the Sooty Terns are starting to leave the island.

Team R&B started at paradise cove and found folks on shore looking at the same spot. They asked if

something was going on and a woman said there had been three seals fighting but they left.

Team R&B knew exactly what that meant so they headed over to secrets. There they were fighting off the rocks coming into the beach. They hurried out on shore to get people back and put up some signs and called the hotline.

It was Kaale RH32, Lefty RG28 and Aukai RL12 heading in very fast. they landed on shore to the rocks..  Kaale was after Aukai and Lefty was close behind fighting with each other. Finally Aukai galumphed up on the rocks and Kaale followed, but Lefty was right up behind Kaale. And there was more fighting.

In the end, Kaale came to the left side and hauled up. Lefty won over Aukai, the poor girl.  I guess if there were more males competing for her this perhaps is how females are mobbed.

A volunteer arrived and put her signs up, so Team R&B removed their and left the site.

They headed over to another west side location they found RH76 Kala. She was alone snoozing at seal inlet.

At the beach park they watched a brown bird looking like a boobie cruising on the water. Beautiful sea bird.

While on the road they saw a lifeguard on his quad and there was seal on shore. They hurried over and were shocked to find RK36 Kauai Kolohe. They had never seen him at this spot in all the years they have been out on the beaches. It was very exciting to see him on their turf.

March 26, 2023 Sunday's Dailies

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island between 2:45 and 3:45 and there were three seals on island.

About 40 feet Makapuu side of 1BS was a Juvenile Male that she has seen for the last two days. Juvenile size, fairly slim light male belly and two red tags.

About where they were yesterday was Mom and PO3. Initially the pup was snoozing but once mom moved up the beach a short way, PO3 was a bit more active. Later moved back around behind Mom. Marilyn finally saw two red tags on mom's rear flippers.  Still believe mom is RF34 Pua.

Team R&B got to paradise cove and saw a seal on the reef. It was RH32 Kaale alone and snoozing. There were people out getting their close up photo pics, as usual. Team R&B called the hotline.

They were treated to a show put on by the dolphins playing off shore. One jumped out close to 20 times, they could see it had a sucker fish on its body. Jumping might have helped him knock it off.

They also witnessed a booby catching a fish.

At another west side location they found two seals today. The two of them, RP30 Puka and RL08 were resting on high rocks. They looked for Miss Kala but she was not here today.

However, when they went to another location they found her. RH76 Kala was alone resting on the rocks.  There were plenty people around so hopefully she was able to continue her rest without being disturbed.
