April 30 2023 Sunday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Melody and Team R&B💕

Melody made her way to the North Shore with her son today.  They went looking for seals and at first coming up empty, but has they were heading out they were excited to find weaner formerly known as PO2, now named Lehua. Looks like she got her bling tagged S48/S49.  Her momma RH48 Lei Ola and she have same numbers but different letter.  They hung out for a little bit got some nice photos and then left. On their way home they called her into the hotline.

Team R&B had a pretty slow day. They started out at the bay, where they waited for a seal to arrive.
Finally after an hour, RH76 Kala hauled in. She went up on the rocks and was alone.
Team R&B did find a bird nest made out of fishing line. (kind of sad if you ask me, hope the babies were all okay).

At another west side location they found big boy RL08. He was hauled out on high rocks and alone. He is a big boy for a four year old and he's looking green.

They got a call of a seal by the cabins and decided to make one last stop. When they arrived the seal took off heading west. They drove around looking and finally as the very end they found a seal. There about 25 people on the beach having a fun day.  Team R&B studied the seal for close to an hour.
There was one little girl who wanted to pet the seal, but her mom told her no, it's illegal. (Yea Mom).
After looking over this big male, they spotted the left eye which let them know it was R407 Kawika. He has been in this area before.

April 29, 2023 Saturday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team R&B💕

They did lots of searching for seals today and didn't have much luck. The beaches were crowded with lots of people, I imagine a lot of people were grateful to have sunshine over the weekend.
Finally at a west side location they found their little pal. On the rocks at seal inlet was RP30 Puka. He was alone and undisturbed.  Since there were lots of homeless around they decided to leave the area and keep Puka hidden.

They stopped at the bay where there were lots of people all over the place, adults and children. An Ohana was having a celebration of life with lots of flowers in the water.
Then Team R&B were shocked to see two seals in the rocks. There was RL08 with his honey RH76 Kala. He seems to find her wherever she escapes to.
The Ohana left the site, and both seals were settled in undisturbed.  Team R&B was happy to see them settled and left them for the day.

April 28, 2023 Fridays' Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team R&B and yours truly.

Team R&B were back on the beaches today. Their first stop they found two seals. RP30 Puka was on seal inlet and RL08 was up on high rocks.

Next stop at the bay they found three seals.
Kala RH76 was with an Unknown Adult. The U/A had a tag and natural bleach on hind flippers but they just couldn't read the tag or come up with an ID. I know they hate when that happens.
Then there was Kalua RL20 on the rocks alone.

I was able to view Rabbit Island today with clearer skies. (Marilyn is away so I am covering for her).
There were six seals on island today.
RB12 Sadie and PO4 were on LPB. They had a very long nursing session with a little rolling around. I thought I saw a NB on PO4's head on the left side. None of the photos confirm this, but it would be great if there were. Sadie is still carrying her weight and her N12 applied bleach was visible.

RF34 Pua and PO3 were close to the shore line on the rocks in front of the 2BS. PO3 has really grown, at one point the kid looked fatter than mom. It's coloring is still really dark and I couldn't see its muzzle well enough to see if that was lighter.

There were two seal by the rocks near the 3BS. It was apparent when they were side by side one was a Juvenile with two red tags. They other was a subadult to adult male.

April 27, 2023 Thursday's Dailies

Todays dailies are very short and sweet. Team R&B took the day off to rest up and stay dry.

Meanwhile on Molokai Tammy spent her last day with friend Liz. They hiked out to La'au point and they had a slow seal day compared to the other day.  There were only two seals both juveniles from 2022.
RQ82 was lying on its right side between the rocks.
RQ32 was on the shore line and has an newly applied L11 bleach.

April 26, 2023 Wednesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Tammy and Team R&B💕

Tammy is still on Molokai, and yesterday had a ten seal day.  She sent the photos today and thankfully labeled them for me. All I can say is Tammy is having a great time and I only wish I was there with her.
Here are all the seals she saw yesterday:  RK62 - RK94 - RQ32 - RN20 - RQ82 - RW00 - RQ28 - RQ30 - R424.

Team R&B took a completely different route this morning and went out to Mokuliea side of Ka'ena Point. Thankfully the weather held up and it was only drizzling. They met up with Lesley while out there.
They spotted a seal from afar and Lesley let them know it was RK36 Kauai Kolohe.
Next there was RL98 Lina.
Then they walked out some to the point and found two seals, which they did not know their ID. One large adult and one small mint greenish seal with a cc scar on left fore flipper. They didn't recognize anything familiar about the large seal.
Last seal on shore as they were going to leave. There was RW02 PvKauai.
Also they were happy to see lots of albatross flying and gliding. They were in heaven.

On their way home they stopped at a west side location and they were happy they did. There were three seals:
RL08 was at left high rocks alone.
RP30 Puka was alone at seal inlet.
RH76 Kala was at waterfront rocks.

They made one last stop. In the morning they could see there was a sweep of all the campers. When they went by in the afternoon the campers were back putting up their tents.  They stopped briefly and found RH48 Lei Ola in the little pond. She was alone snoozing once again.
