October 31, 2024 Thursday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team R&B💕

Team R&B got to pokai and saw a man standing by RH76 Kala. He was taking photos, but by the time they got closer, he left in a hurry.  They have seen him before.
Kala RH76 was alert and flip flopping on the rocks, and breathing heavy. They observed her and thought she was stressed or scared, thankfully she finally settled down.
Then a young guy came with two nets and a bucket, he passed right by Kala. At first Team R&B thought he didn't see her, but apparently he did and just didn't care. They stood by to make sure she was okay. At one point Kala leapt at the guy and was barking. Needless to say it was a frustrating situation.

Heading over to the rest-camp side they observed two seal foraging. They ID's RL20 Kalua along with RH48 Lei Ola.
While watching the foraging seals, they saw one of the boats stop.
Then they understood why, the dolphins were out having fun as usual.

Next they headed over to Makaha to check on R3CX Nalu. They were happy to see he was alone on shore. He is about 65% molting and looking good.
They continued over to yoks and found two seals. There was the green munchkin RP28. Further to his right was RG28 Lefty.

Lastly they did a re-check at pokai. They were happy to see their
Unknown Male who is probably R617 along with RM31 Kai. The two of them were side by side resting peacefully.
Also to the right, RH76 Kala was still there. She did leave while they were there due to the rising tide that covered the area.

October 30, 2024 Wednesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:00 to 1:30 pm and there were four seals seen during that time.
About 60 feet Makapuu side of 1BS was a seal Marilyn believes to be R7AF: sub-adult size, newer coat, light male belly and two red tags.
Closer to 2BS was a seal labeled as an Unknown Adult: adult size, two red tags, not sure about sex, in some photos she thought maybe male and in others female, so it goes in as unknown.
Just hauling out about 25 feet Makapuu side of 3BS was RN04 Kainoa: adult size, mostly new coat, medium gray male belly and unsure about tags. Marilyn estimated the seal is about 95% molted, there are still patches of old fur on the rear dorsal area.
Out on RRB was a Sub-adult Female: sub-adult size, newer coat, light female belly and two ted tags. When she first hauled out she headed up to the large rock at the back of the beach and went into snooze mode. Later, the SF moved back down the beach.
The sooty terns were flying around a lot and dive-bombed many of the photos. The juvenile Masked Booby was up on the back edge of the crater during part of Marilyn's viewing session.

Team R&B first stop was at pokai where they waited for a seal to show up. There weren't any critters so they left. Upon their second check they were happy to find the Unknown Male was on the rocks. He has just the back portion and some fur on his flippers left to molt. He is looking so clean in his new coat, and yet they still can't confirm a positive ID.

They headed over and hung out at rest-camp. They spotted only two seals foraging today. They ID'd RH48 Lei Ola and RL20 Kalua.

Next stop was at Makaha, where they found R3CX Nalu. He was alone on shore molting away. He
looks to be about 50% molted already.

From there Team R&B their next stop they found Miss Leia RL42. She was alone getting hit by waves even getting rolled over, but she stayed.
They also found another seal in the area but could not make an ID. They reported it as an Unidentified Unknown. They couldn't determine if it had tags, looked to have a lot of green on its coat, a cc scar on right side. They also thought there might have been an applied bleach on its right side, possibly the #9.

They made a quick stop at yoks and found RP28. He is looking so green and quite cute. He had move up enough that they got the tag shot.

Finally they went make to check on the molting male and  were surprised to find that RL20 had hauled out next to him.  There was no interaction between them while Team R&B were there.

October 29, 2024 Tuesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:58 to 1:53 pm and there were three seals seen during that time.
Down from 1BS was RN04 Kainoa who now appears about 80% molted. His ventral is totally molted and much of his dorsal is molted but still has patches of fur in multiple places. He is adult size, gray male belly and did not see tags.
At 1:06 pm, Marilyn saw a seal in the shallow water in front of
Kainoa. At 1:12 pm that seal had hauled out on the back Lanikai side of LPB. This seal labeled Unknown Juvenile: juvenile size, newer coat, light sand covered belly, not sure about tags. This seal later moved further along the cliff.
Just after Marilyn started viewing a monk seal hauled out near 3BS. This seal labeled an Unknown Sub-adult: sub-adult size, newer coat, two red tags, unsure about sex.

Team R&B arrived at pokai and spotted the Unknown Male was high up on shore. As they were photographing him they saw a volunteer just below. Team R&B spoke to her as she was trying to ID a female seal in the area. They were able to help out and ID RH76 Kala with her one tag.
They told her how they have spent the last two weeks watching over this U/M trying to make a positive ID.  Also they noted his molt is moving along amazingly fast, he looks to be about 70% done.

Team R&B was happy to see Kala RH76 on her rocks again. This is her spot where she can hide from the boys. The volunteer was trying to get a tag shot for an ID, but
Team R&B were able to help out with that.
On their afternoon recheck Kala was gone.

Heading over to the rest-camp area they once again found several seals foraging. They also saw some sharks attacking something out there (not a seal), they were way out to the right.
The first seal they were able to ID was RL12 Aukai out there foraging.
Next they spotted as well as heard RL20 Kalua. He was foraging and they saw him with a fish, all while he was vocalizing.
Then they saw the seal with the green snout. There was their girl RH48 Lei Ola. She was further out foraging.

Along with the seals they saw lots of dolphins. They were amazing, further out going crazy, jumping, splashing and spinning.

Making a final stop at Makaha they found R3CX  Nalu. They had wondered why he wasn't at rest-camp. Now they know, he was resting on shore and is molting. It appears his chest has opening up, we'll see how quickly it goes.
