June 18, 2025 Wednesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:22 to 2:42 pm and there were nine seals seen during that time.
Initially alone near the LPB surge channel was a seal labeled as a Juvenile Male: juvenile size, light male belly and unsure about tags.
At 1:18 pm Marilyn became aware that a weaner had joined the J/M. Weaner1: weaner size, shape and coloration, two red tags unsure of its sex. There was some minor interaction between Weaner 1 and the J/M. At 1:48 pm, Marilyn noted that both seals disappeared.
In the middle of LPB were RH76 Kala and PO11. The pup was very active and saw two nursing sessions. PO11 also moved a distance from mom and close to the water, Kala kept a close eye on the pup.
Marilyn did not see Aukai RL12 and PO12 until 2:30 pm. Marilyn had already called the hotline that Aukai and pup were MIA, but might be behind waterfront rocks. Aukai and PO12 did move up the shore from behind waterfront rocks. The hotline called her back just as she saw RL12 and pup emerge.
Near 3BS was a Sub-adult Female: sub-adult size, older coat, brownish yellow female belly and two tags.
Marilyn was able to ID the molting adult female, that has been on island for the past three days. It is RK37 Hali'a/Lauloa (Sadie's 2018 RI pup). Marilyn hasn't seen her for a long time. She was ID'd by her gray female belly, two red tags but most importantly a NB on her left rear side. Marilyn puts her molt at about 90%.  Marilyn had thought that RK37 might pup this year, but assumes she did not.
On the rock flats on the Makapuu side of the SRI channel was Weaner 2: weaner size, shape and coloration. She never saw the ventral or rear flippers so its just Weaner 2.

Team R&B found RL20 Kalua at pokai. He was alone resting at the zen. He was alert but doing okay, and looking fat. They suspect he was the seal they saw yesterday by the akule boats.

Since they were coming up empty they decided to make the Ka'ena West Trek. It was a long hot trek and they came up empty. As they were walking out they spotted a seal at yoks, who had not been there earlier.
They checked it out and spent time trying to get an ID. Being over-
heated and tired they were not able to make an ID, although they don't think its Kainoa RN04.
They didn't see any tags on the unknown male, which made them wonder if maybe it was RH32 Kaale. Maybe they'll get some feedback, so we shall see.
