July 31, 2025 Thursday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕  Also we want to wish our beloved Rocky a Happy Birthday today. I believe she turns 25 today!

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:30 to 2:30 pm and there were four seals seen during that time. Marilyn did not that as of yesterday the Sooty Terns have landed on Rabbit Island. They were concentrated in the Middle Cliff area.
There were three seals when she first arrived, but it was dark and then
rained. When she was able to start viewing again  there were two seals at the back middle of LPB.
Weaner RU24: older weaner size and shape, yellow male belly and two red tags.
Nearby was Recent Weaner 1: chubby weaner size, shape and coloration, male belly.
At 1:15 pm, two more seals hauled onto the middle of LPB:
Recent Weaner 2: chubby weaner size, shape and coloration and male belly.
Unknown Juvenile: larger juvenile size, about 65% molted two red tags and unsure of sex. (although Marilyn thought it might be a male)
RW2 and the UJ interacted for several minutes and the UJ moved up the beach.  RW2 then headed over to RU24 and RW1.

Team R&B headed over to plains and found RH48 Lei Ola. They got a good laugh since Lei Ola took over the shower area and the lifeguards blocked it off just for her.  We love the lifeguards for taking good care of her.

Also at plains they spotted by the cabins the lovely female from Kure Atoll, KG89 Huaki. Then they
noticed a line with a big ulua hook.  KG89 barely moved for the two hours they spent with her. The hook appears to be about 2 inches, line about 10 inches in the left corner of her mouth. They called the hotline about the hook.
They were a little concerned for the young kids playing by the sign since the ocean was pretty rough today.
No one came while they were there, hopefully KG89 will toss the hook on her own.

Since they weren't finding any other seals they stopped by yoks to watch the waves. They caught one amazing picture of a girl surfing a wave with fish in the wave.

July 30, 2025 Wednesday's Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:35 to 2:22 pm and there were five seals seen during that time.
When Marilyn first arrived there were two seals on LPB:
Recent Weaner 1: chubby weaner size, shape and coloration with a male belly.
Unknown Juvenile: larger juvenile size, about 55% molted with a clean ventral with some new fur. Marilyn was unable to determine its sex. She believes there were two tags, and thinks this is the same U/J that she has reported for several days.
At 12:44 pm, Marilyn saw Recent Weaner 2 haul out on the rock flats on the Lanikai side of LPB. The RW2 moved further back on the flats and then on the edge of LPB. It was weaner size, shape and coloration with a male belly.
Initially among the water front rocks near the 2BS was a sub-adult male who Marilynn was able to ID as TempN25. At some point the seal moved from its original location onto the rocks in Middle Cliff. Marilyn was able to see the applied N25 bleaches. This is the first time she has knowingly seen TempN25 on Rabbit Island.
On the beach near 3BS was weaner RU38: older weaner size, and shape, light female belly and two red tags.

Team R&B were pretty tired after yesterday's tsunami scare. It's a lot of work and stressful to evacuate your home with your pets. Thankfully all was well and they made it back home late in the evening.
So they went out a little later today, initially coming up empty.
They headed over to plains and found the lovely Lei Ola RH48. She was alone on shore getting hit by the waves. It was a little rough and windy. One wave went clear pass the lifeguard stand and pass the pavilion.  By 11:50 am Lei Ola had enough and headed out into the water. Team R&B left.
Then at 2:05 they got a text that she came back, but they didn't go back to check.

Their only other seal was a large male they saw at the cliffs. He was in between the rocks resting. There were no tags, scar on fore flipper and then they saw an applied bleach number N70. They knew it was R617. He seem to have a few nicks on his head area that they had not noticed before.

July 29, 2025 Late Dailies from Tsunami Tuesday

Before we were all warned of a potential tsunami hitting the islands Marilyn and Team R&B were out doing what they do. I did not get to the blog last night in that I had evacuated my home for most of the evening.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:37 to 2:32 pm and there were five seals seen during that time.
At first there were only two seals visible on the rock flats near SRI:
Adult Female: adult size, new coat, light gray female belly, scar on lower neck, two red tags.
Unknown Sub-adult: sub-adult size, older coat, at least one red tag, unknown sex.
At 12:41 pm, an Unknown Juvenile hauled out onto the rock flats on the Lanikai side of LPB. The UJ is larger juvenile size, old coat and at least one red tag. Marilyn never saw its belly so sex is unknown.
At 1:04 pm Recent Weaner 1 hauled out Lanikai of the UJ and then ultimately moved to the LPB side of the UJ.
Five minutes later Recent Weaner 2 hauled out onto the rocks near LPB. RW2 then moved onto the LPB. After a while RW2 moved back to where RW1 was.

Team R&B saw two seals at Maili Beach Park. Both were covered in sand and green. The Female was looking thing with only one red tag. They weren't sure who she was but ruled out RL70 since there was just one tag.
The male was huge, with no real scars or markings and no tags. They stayed for a while trying to make and ID but just couldn't especially with so much sand.

At plains they found KG89 Huakai resting near tower one. She is
looking a little thin and was ID'd by her gray tags.
By tower 2 was Lei Ola RH48 resting. She looks like she's put on some weight looking a little thicker.

Their last stop at Kahe they heard snorkelers yelling "seal seal". Team R&B saw an adult seal swimming by fast, no id could be made.
