Marilyn was finally able to get back to the pier to view the island and oh what a day it was. She viewed Rabbit Island from 12:43 to 2:39 pm and there were a total of 10 seals seen today.
Marilyn called in five downed Wedge-tailed Shearwaters recovered from the pier. All seemed to be in good condition.
Initially there were nine seal on island and then a 10th seal appeared. Showing up last at 1:47 pm near the middle of LPB was a Sub-adult Unknown: sub-adult size, no info on sex or tags.
A short distance Makapuu of 1BS was molting Adult Male 1: Marilyn saw the ventral briefly so she is estimating the molt is about 45%: adult size, older dorsal coat, male belly and at least one red tag.
Between 1BS and 2BS among the waterfront rocks was RK24 Bruno: adult size, light gray male belly, scar on lower lip, two red tags.
A short distance further toward 2BS was Adult Male 2: small adult size, dark coat, dark male belly, did not see tags.
On the 3BS side of Middle Cliff was a Sub-adult Male: sub-adult size, newer coat, mottled male belly, unsure about tags.
Adult Male 3: adult size, old coat, two red tags, brown male belly.
Adult Female: adult size, brownish gray female belly, scar on lower neck/upper chest, no info on tags.
Adult Male 4: adult size, about 40% molted, male belly and at least one red tag.
Near SRI was a Weaner Male: weaner to juvenile size, light male belly and two red tags.
Team R&B had an equally busy seal day today. They started out at the bay where there were multiple seals foraging. They had a hard time trying to get IDs on all of them.
First group foraging was RU04, she was fighting with RL20 Kalua and RP28 Wakea. Also out there was RM31 Kai. They also saw and ID'd RG32.
After awhile RU04 and RL20 hauled out together. Little RU04 was the bell of the ball, she was visited by many of the males and she
stood her ground, tough little buggah. Next to show up was RH32 Kaale and then RG28 Lefty.
Over at the outfall they saw the Unknown Adult with the greenish coat foraging alone today.
They decided to make their way over to plains where they spotted a seal. A zone was set up for the lovely Miss KG89 Huakai. She is looking quite lovely and plump.
Last week they had seen R407 was molting. They went to check on him today and he is in the same area and is fully molted. There were several fishing poles out today, but he was okay, thankfully.
Heading over to cliffs they found RL42 Leia alone. She was resting peacefully on the rocks.
Their last seal of a very long day was the Mystery Molter Unknown Male. They spent over an hour trying to get something for an ID, adult male, no tags and now 100% molted. He was really hidden today, which made it more of a challenge.
And they got to enjoy some of the whales out having a good time.
