Went down several times today to check on RL42 Leia & PO4 D4 - The were up and down the beach in a bee line high tide low tide.
On the noon check RH32 Ka’ale hauled out near them but up wind, he only noticed them when Leia sneezed. He rolled over got completely breaded and went straight to them. Mom held the pup with one flipper while she gave her piece of mind to her brother.
Yes that’s correct you read right. RL42 Leia is R912 Nihoa’s first born in 2012, then came RN58 Luana born in 2013 and last RH32 Ka’ale in 2016. Nihoa was found dead a couple of month after he weaned.
In 2018 RN58 Luana gave birth to RK88 Puna (found dead last year) and RL12 Leia gave birth 6 days later on May 5th to RK40 Napua. Last year RN58 Luana gave birth to RL20 Kalua. And now 2020 PO4 is the 7th pup to be born on the same beach.
Ka’ale was still there on my last check at sunset. M & P were taking a nap, her 4 nipples were wet, that shows that PO4 is nursing very well.
