Rocky made her way back to the crowds in Waikiki..... Thanks to Zeeny and Karen Rohter and any others who made their way out to Waikiki. I am including Karen's account of her time out there today.... Also the last couple of photo are from Zeeny!

There's the usual Rocky picture- a bit on the heavy side maybe- and a couple of more unusual seal details of nose and whiskers.
Rocky left about 6:40 with a crowd following her as she slowly, head out of the water and with focus, made her way near shore down the beach. The crowd intensely watched her approach from behind a guy hip deep in the water working a metal detector. The suspense was high, as most of this congenial crowd had already been watching her for more than half an hour.
Suddenly a voice rang out; "Shouldn't we warn the guy?" A resounding "No!" came forth as the seal was but six feet away. But her curiosity apparently abated, she turned a 90 degree and headed out. (The guy never knew, and the crowd was disappointed.) The seal was obviously somehow picking up on that metal detector.

After yesterday's tepid help from Outrigger Reef Hotel, today was completely different. They had cut up PVC pipe into five foot sections and with tape, staked out the beach. Not only that, they assigned one of their security guys in uniform to help stand watch. My thanks to guard Cory who was there with me from about 2:30 pm until when Rocky left, and to Zeenat who took the shift before, discovering you need eyes in the back of your head to watch for strollers by the water line who never look up to see the roped off area- or the seal!

Hi Donna,....I forgot to tell DB that a beach patroller called Marijke was really helpful keeping the crowds at bay in Waikiki. And the security guys of the hotel that were out there, with long dark trousers, all the time.
