Aloha good people! Many of you are from the area and are very familiar with Rabbit Island (Manana Island) and Makai Pier, where our beloved seal whisperer spends endless hours watching over the cast of characters. HOWEVER there are many new readers to our blog that need to put this into perspective. This photograph is of Rabbit Island is about a mile away from the pier where DB sits... so when you look at the photographs of the seals on the island.. realize he is shooting the his camera through his high powered lens... AND.... his eagle eyes can identify these animals.
DB is a mentor and a hero to many of us volunteers... he has an amazing wealth of knowledge about these animals and generously shares it with us.... and as many of you know he has a great sense of humor.

Nobody can even come close to what DB does in his daily monk seal observations, NOBODY!!! You are correct...he has knowledge, he has also got the most patience, yes great EAGLE EYES, but he is also very compassionate about his babies out there. He knows each by scars, behaviors, mannerisms! He is a valuble man to our critters and to NOAA. He has such respect by all who met him. He is also a great teacher to all of us. He has this magic in his heart and soul that is remarkable. He never misses anything...That is why..we know him as THE SEAL WHISPERER!!! Excuse me as I bow, to our Royal Highness.....he. he.
